BeyondTrust vs CyberArk
BeyondTrust and CyberArk are both evaluated in the CIOPages Privileged Access Management (PAM) Buyer's Guide and the Privileged Access Management (PAM) for Cloud & Hybrid Buyer's Guide. The guide groups BeyondTrust under Unified Platform and CyberArk under Enterprise PAM.
In the Privileged Access Management (PAM) guide
| Attribute | BeyondTrust | CyberArk |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Unified Platform | Enterprise PAM |
| Best for | Enterprises wanting unified privileged access, endpoint privilege, and secure remote/vendor access from one vendor with a single console | Large, compliance-driven enterprises that need the deepest privileged controls, broadest coverage, and audit-grade evidence across a hybrid estate |
From the Privileged Access Management (PAM) Buyer's Guide, updated June 2026. 8 vendors evaluated.
BeyondTrust
Third-party and help-desk access is where it separates from the pack: a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader unifying privileged password and session management, endpoint privilege management, and secure remote access, with the Pathfinder platform launched in 2025 folding PAM together with ITDR, secrets management, CIEM, and remote access into a single identity-security view, often at more approachable commercials. That breadth spans products with different lineages still converging onto one platform, so test the seams. Cloud-native secrets and DevOps depth trail the most engineering-focused tools, and Francisco Partners has publicly explored a sale, so weigh a potential ownership change into a multi-year commitment.
CyberArk
The category benchmark, and power comes with weight: a Gartner Magic Quadrant Leader for PAM for the seventh consecutive time, trusted by more than 10,000 organizations and over half of the Fortune 500, with the deepest enterprise vaulting and session control, the broadest connector and compliance coverage, and a serious modern stack — Secrets Manager, formerly Conjur, Secrets Hub to broker AWS, Azure, and HashiCorp Vault stores, and SPIFFE-based workload identity — unified under its Identity Security Platform. Classic deployments are complex and agent- and proxy-heavy, pricing sits at the premium end, and the SaaS modernization spans many modules to license and stitch together. The Palo Alto Networks acquisition closed in February 2026, so packaging, roadmap, and integration direction are still settling.

In the Privileged Access Management (PAM) for Cloud & Hybrid guide
| Attribute | BeyondTrust | CyberArk |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Full-Suite | Full-Suite |
| Best for | Organizations where secure remote privileged access — for vendors, contractors, and distributed IT/OT — is the dominant use case alongside core vaulting | Large, complex enterprises that want one vendor to span human, machine, and cloud privileged identity end to end — and are comfortable with the depth and cost that implies |
From the Privileged Access Management (PAM) for Cloud & Hybrid Buyer's Guide, updated June 2026. 8 vendors evaluated.
BeyondTrust
Where secure remote privileged access for vendors, contractors, and distributed IT/OT is a first-class requirement, this is the strongest fit here: Password Safe for vaulting, PASM, and secrets, best-in-class Privileged Remote Access for vendor and workforce access, and strong endpoint privilege management across Windows, macOS, and UNIX/Linux, unified by the Pathfinder platform. A Gartner PAM Leader, frequently rated highest in Ability to Execute. It is clearer in remote access and PEDM than in cloud-native JIT and developer secrets, where newer entrants push harder, and full-suite deployment carries the usual enterprise weight — scope Password Safe and PRA to your actual access patterns rather than buying the bundle.
CyberArk
Nobody spans more of the privileged identity problem: Privilege Cloud vaulting and session management, Secrets Manager (formerly Conjur) for machine identity, Secure Cloud Access for just-in-time cloud-console elevation, and deep machine-identity and certificate management through the Venafi acquisition — a Gartner PAM Leader for seven consecutive years, with the largest integration ecosystem. Weight is the price of that. Full deployments are complex, premium-priced, and historically vault-centric, and cloud-native JIT entrants feel lighter-touch for pure DevOps use cases. The larger unknown is ownership: the Palo Alto Networks acquisition closed in February 2026 and positions CyberArk as the identity pillar of a broader security platform, so put roadmap and platform-bundling direction on the diligence list.
