Global Payments / Worldpay

Now one of the largest pure-play merchant-acceptance companies, after Global Payments completed its acquisition of Worldpay in January 2026 and concurrently divested its Issuer Solutions / TSYS business to FIS — combining integrated and vertical-software acquiring with Worldpay’s enterprise e-commerce and global processing scale. A recently combined organization that large carries real integration and platform-rationalization risk, and product and pricing consistency across the merged stack will take time to settle. Confirm which underlying platform and roadmap your deal actually lands on, and expect it to be less developer-first than the cloud-native PSPs.

Stripe

The broadest API surface in payments, with the best developer experience attached: payments, Billing, Connect for platforms, Treasury, and Issuing on one stack, acceptance tooling — network tokenization, AI-driven authorization optimization, optimized checkout — treated as a core focus, and an unmatched startup-to-enterprise growth path. Pricing is premium and often blended, so enterprises negotiate it down at volume. Treasury and reconciliation are less tailored than a dedicated acquirer’s, in-person and omnichannel coverage and deep local schemes trail the acquirer incumbents in some geographies, and support depth varies by tier.
