Value Streams
Finance and Accounting Value Streams: AI-Ready Edition
12 finance value streams in 57 stages, each shown today and AI-native, with its target AI mode and human checkpoint
What this value stream set is for
These value streams show how one function's work runs from the trigger to the result, stage by stage, as it runs today and as it could run with AI. Each stage names the target AI mode, the agents involved and the checkpoint that stays with a person.
Teams use them to decide where AI goes in the work, to plan process redesign stage by stage, and to tie each stage to the capabilities that enable it.
About These Value Streams
The Finance and Accounting Value Streams: AI-Ready Edition is for CIOs, architects and transformation leads who need to see how finance work runs from trigger to value, and where AI belongs in it. It covers 12 value streams in 57 stages. Each stage is shown as it runs today and as it could run with AI, with the target AI mode, the agents involved and the human checkpoint that stays with a person. It is the value-stream part of Business Architecture for Finance and Accounting: AI Transformation Blueprint, sold on its own.
What's Inside
The same 12 value streams come in three files: a deck to present, a workbook to work in and a guide to read. The workbook holds every field; the deck shows each stage as it runs today and AI-native, with its AI mode and human checkpoint.
- 12 finance value streams and their 57 stages, each with its steps, stakeholders, entry and exit criteria, and the capabilities that enable it
- For every stage: today's pain points, the AI-native future state, the agents involved, the target AI mode, the human checkpoint and KPIs
- 10 standard finance value streams with their steps, as a reference process view
- The Value Streams deck (PowerPoint): every value stream as a flow, then stage by stage
- The workbook (Excel): the value streams and every stage, in sheets you can filter and extend
- The guide (Word): the scales used at each stage (AI mode, human oversight, risk tier and work pattern), every value stream in prose, and the license
- Free corrections, and new versions free for 180 days
Every file names your organization and carries your license ID.
The 12 Value Streams
Each value stream runs from a trigger to the value it delivers. The list gives that value and the number of stages.
- Plan to Perform (5 stages): Capital and budget committed to the priorities the strategy names, a forecast leaders act on, and early, explained warning when results drift from plan.
- Order to Cash (5 stages): Customers receive accurate invoices and can pay easily; the organization collects cash sooner, recognizes revenue correctly and writes off less.
- Procure to Pay (5 stages): Suppliers are paid on time and correctly; the organization pays only for approved, received goods and services, pays each invoice once and to the right account.
- Expense to Reimbursement (4 stages): Employees are reimbursed quickly with little effort; the organization spends within policy and records each cost against the right cost center.
- Payroll to Ledger (4 stages): Employees are paid accurately on payday, withholdings and contributions reach the bodies owed them on time, and payroll costs and liabilities reconcile in the ledger.
- Acquire to Retire (4 stages): An asset register that matches what the organization owns and uses, depreciation that is correct, and assets whose value, location and status are known from acquisition to disposal.
- Record to Report (6 stages): Financial statements and reports that are accurate, complete and on time, produced through a close the organization can explain to its auditor and its board.
- Forecast to Fund (5 stages): Cash is available where and when it is needed at the lowest cost, surplus cash earns a return within policy, and currency, rate and counterparty risks stay within approved limits.
- Provision to Return (5 stages): Tax paid correctly and on time, a provision that holds up at review, and positions the organization can defend with evidence.
- Risk to Assurance (5 stages): Leaders and the board have confidence in financial reporting, control failures and fraud are detected early, and findings are fixed and stay fixed.
- Deal to Integration (5 stages): Acquisitions, partnerships and divestitures that are valued on documented methods, diligenced thoroughly, and integrated or separated so that they deliver the returns in their deal case.
- Results to Market (4 stages): Investors receive consistent, timely and accurate information and understand the equity story, supporting a fair valuation and a stable shareholder base.
Who Uses It
Process owners and the teams who redesign finance work, transformation leads who need a future-state process view to plan from, and business architects who map value streams to capabilities.
How It Fits With the Other Products
Each stage names the capabilities that enable it; they are defined in the Finance and Accounting Capability Model: AI-Ready Edition. The agents each stage involves are specified in Business Architecture for Finance and Accounting: AI Transformation Blueprint, which also holds the business data model, use cases, controls, an operating model and a roadmap. The Finance and Accounting Business Data Model is sold on its own too.
Target AI modes describe a typical large enterprise and are a starting point for your own.
