From the Marketing Automation Platforms Buyer's Guide, updated June 2026. 8 vendors evaluated.
ActiveCampaign
Strong automation value for teams that have outgrown basic email but cannot justify an enterprise platform: a flexible visual automation builder, solid deliverability, a built-in CRM split into B2C Pipelines and B2B Sales Engagement, plus email, SMS, and WhatsApp, with transparent, self-serve, lower-cost entry and short time-to-value without certified consultants. It lacks the enterprise depth, governance, and scale of Marketo, Eloqua, or Braze and is not built for very high-volume consumer messaging. Reporting and analytics are lighter, and contact-based billing now counts unsubscribed and bounced contacts, so list hygiene directly affects the invoice.
Klaviyo
The default engagement platform for ecommerce and DTC, and the Shopify depth is why: pre-built order, browse, and catalog models, predictive purchase and churn signals, and tightly integrated email, SMS, mobile push, and WhatsApp on a unified profile, increasingly acting as a lightweight B2C CRM and CDP, with strong out-of-box flows and self-serve onboarding a small team can run without consultants. Its center of gravity is retail and ecommerce, so B2B and complex non-commerce use cases fit poorly. Active-profile pricing rises sharply as lists grow, especially with accumulated inactive contacts, and very large enterprises needing heavy multi-team governance are not the target.
