From the Enterprise Service Management (ESM) Buyer's Guide, updated March 2026. 5 vendors evaluated.

Freshservice (Freshworks)

Weeks, not months, is the pitch: intuitive UX, rapid deployment, the AI-powered Freddy agent, competitive pricing, and strong out-of-the-box ITSM with growing ESM capabilities for non-IT departments. Enterprise customization has limits, CMDB and ITOM are less mature, and it is not ideal where deep integration with complex legacy systems is required.

ServiceNow

The market-dominant platform, with the broadest ESM capabilities: deep CMDB and ITOM, Now Assist AI, the most mature cross-department workflow engine, and industry-leading HR Service Delivery, CSM, and SecOps. Pricing is premium — often three to five times mid-market alternatives — implementation is complex with real customization cost, it needs a dedicated admin team, and the license model can be opaque.
