| Best for | Engineering-centric organizations already invested in Atlassian seeking integrated ITSM/DevOps workflows | Large enterprises requiring deep cross-department ESM with CMDB, ITOM, and platform extensibility |
From the Enterprise Service Management (ESM) Buyer's Guide, updated March 2026. 5 vendors evaluated.
Jira Service Management
Developer-friendly and quick to stand up: native Jira, Confluence, and Opsgenie integration, competitive pricing, strong incident management with on-call and alerting, and cloud-first delivery with Atlassian Intelligence. ESM capabilities for HR and facilities are less mature than ServiceNow’s, CMDB and asset management are improving but not enterprise-grade, and scaling past 50,000 users is a challenge.
ServiceNow
The market-dominant platform, with the broadest ESM capabilities: deep CMDB and ITOM, Now Assist AI, the most mature cross-department workflow engine, and industry-leading HR Service Delivery, CSM, and SecOps. Pricing is premium — often three to five times mid-market alternatives — implementation is complex with real customization cost, it needs a dedicated admin team, and the license model can be opaque.
