Alertmanager handles alerts sent by client applications such as the Prometheus server. It deduplicates, groups, and routes alerts to the correct receiver integration such as email, PagerDuty, or OpsGenie. It also handles silencing and inhibition of alerts. Grouping, timing for grouped notifications, and receivers are configured by a routing tree in the configuration file. Alertmanager supports configuration to create a cluster for high availability.

- Grouping alerts of similar nature into a single notification
- Suppressing notifications for certain alerts if other alerts are already firing
- Muting alerts for a given time using silences
- Limiting the number of active alerts per alertname
- Creating a cluster for high availability
