Links, coverage and corrections

What we will and will not do, and how to get something fixed.

What it is

We sell advertising and publish independent research to the same audience. That works only if the line between the two is public and we hold to it. This page sets out where the line is and what it means for the requests we are asked most often.

What it costs

Corrections are free, for anyone, whether or not you are a customer.

The full rate card

What you get

  • A correction to anything factually wrong, at no charge
  • A link to your website on your Directory listing, free
  • The reasoning behind each answer

What it does not buy

  • A link inside our editorial writing
  • A place in a Buyer Guide's vendor analysis
  • Review of a draft before it publishes, or removal of accurate criticism

How to do it

  1. 1
Send the page, the error and a source

That is everything we need. We do not refuse a factual correction.

  2. 2
We check it and fix it

Corrections that change a reader's understanding are marked on the page.

How corrections work

Questions

How do you decide which vendors appear in a Buyer Guide?

Our editors choose on market relevance: who a CIO shortlisting that category would actually evaluate. It is not a paid list and there is no application.

Can we pay to be added to a guide's vendor analysis?

No, at any price. What you can buy is a labeled placement beside the analysis. Keeping your Directory profile accurate also helps, because that is the record our editors work from when they update a guide.

What we sell

Your guide says something wrong about our product.

Send it as a correction with the URL, the specific claim, and a public source. We will fix it within five business days. What we will not do is rewrite an assessment that is accurate but unflattering.

Corrections

A competitor is in a guide and we're not. How is that decided?

Our editors decide on relevance, and they revisit it whenever a guide is updated. The most useful thing you can do is claim your profile and make sure it is accurate and in the right category, because that record is what our editors work from.

Will you send us the draft before publishing?

We will check a specific fact with you before publishing if you ask. We do not give vendors approval over coverage.

Why so strict about links in the editorial?

Two reasons. Readers rely on our links pointing where the reporting leads rather than where someone paid. And search engines treat paid links inside editorial content as a link scheme, which would put both our domain and yours at risk. Neither applies to a labeled advertising placement, so those remain available.

What can we buy for visibility?

A labeled Spotlight placement on the Buyer Guides your buyers read, from $199 a guide a year, and the buyer inquiries a claimed listing brings in. We add formats over time. If there is one you want that we do not sell yet, tell us.

Is your content AI-generated?

We use AI tools in research and drafting, and a person accountable for the result reviews and edits every guide, article and definition we publish. We do not publish unreviewed machine output and we do not accept it from contributors. Directory profiles follow a stricter rule: every factual field has to trace back to the company's own page, or it does not appear.

How we build Directory listings

Will you publish our press release?

We do not run press releases. If the news changes a fact in your listing — funding, an acquisition, a rename, a new product line — send it as a correction instead, and we will update the record.
