Amazon Web Services vs Google Cloud Platform
Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud Platform are both evaluated in the CIOPages Cloud Infrastructure & IaaS Buyer's Guide. The guide groups Amazon Web Services under Broadest Portfolio and Google Cloud Platform under Data & AI.
| Attribute | Amazon Web Services (AWS) | Google Cloud Platform (GCP) |
|---|---|---|
| Approach | Broadest Portfolio | Data & AI |
| Best for | Enterprises that want the widest service catalog, the deepest ecosystem, and a primary cloud they can build almost anything on | Data- and AI-intensive organizations and teams with strong Kubernetes and container adoption that value analytics depth |
From the Cloud Infrastructure & IaaS Buyer's Guide, updated June 2026. 7 vendors evaluated.
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
The default safe choice when breadth and ecosystem depth are paramount: well over 200 services, the deepest enterprise adoption, the largest partner and marketplace ecosystem, and the most mature operational tooling, with a custom-silicon program that is a genuine differentiator — Graviton ARM CPUs, now fifth-generation, for price-performance, and Trainium and Inferentia for AI training and inference at scale alongside Nvidia GPUs. Pricing is famously complex and the console fragments across services, with per-GB egress and a support tier priced as a percentage of spend the two places bills surprise teams. Proprietary-service depth maximizes lock-in, and the AI and ML stack, powerful as it is, is less tightly integrated than Google’s.
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
The data-gravity cloud for analytics-led organizations: BigQuery for serverless analytics, Vertex AI and Gemini for the model platform, custom TPUs and Axion ARM CPUs for differentiated AI infrastructure, the strongest managed Kubernetes heritage in GKE, excellent network performance, and sustained-use discounts that reward steady workloads automatically alongside competitive committed-use pricing. Enterprise share is smaller than AWS or Azure, the service catalog narrower, and the partner and enterprise-support ecosystem still maturing. Some buyers remain wary of long-term enterprise commitment and the product-deprecation history, so pin down roadmap and support assurances before you standardize.
