About Cadence Workflow

Cadence Workflow is an open-source workflow engine for Go, Java, and Python. It is self-hostable and can be deployed on SQLite, Docker, or Kubernetes. Workflows resume from the exact point of failure using execution history logs. It handles task matching and queuing natively, without external message queues. It supports pluggable storage backends including Cassandra, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and OpenSearch. It is used for mission-critical workflows at companies such as Uber, DoorDash, and NetApp.

Cadence Web: Provides a browser interface supporting Batch Actions to terminate, signal, or cancel groups of workflows.
Cadence Schedules: Runs workflows on a recurring cadence with overlap policies, backfill, pause/unpause, and catch-up.
Batch Future (Go client): Processes activities or child workflows with a bounded concurrency limit using the Cadence Go client.
DataConverter: Allows compression, encryption, serialization, or claim-check offload of workflow payloads.
Shard Manager: Found and mitigated deadlocks in the Matching service.
Workflow Replayer: Used for writing Go tests for Cadence workflows to catch non-deterministic changes.
