Change Impact Assessment
Evaluate the risk and complexity of your technology change initiative across four dimensions: People, Process, Technology, and Organization. Get a risk heatmap, overall risk rating, and a prioritized action plan.
About This Assessment
This assessment uses the PPTO (People, Process, Technology, Organization) framework to identify where your change initiative faces the highest risk.
How to use it: Enter the name of your change initiative, then answer 4 questions for each of the 4 dimensions. Each question is rated 1β5. The tool calculates a risk score per dimension and an overall change risk rating, then generates a prioritized action plan.
People & Culture
Rate each factor 1 (low/minimal) to 5 (high/significant)
Q1. How many employees are directly affected by this change?
Q2. How significant is the change to daily work routines?
Q3. How resistant is the affected workforce likely to be?
Q4. How strong is executive sponsorship for this change?
How to Interpret Your Results
How the Change Impact Assessment works
You can name the change initiative. You then rate 16 questions on a 1 to 5 scale, 4 in each of 4 dimensions: People & Culture, Process & Operations, Technology & Systems, and Organization & Structure.
Most questions measure exposure, such as how many employees are affected or how complex the data migration is. A higher answer means higher risk.
4 questions measure strength instead: executive sponsorship, process documentation, IT change delivery capability and leadership alignment. The tool inverts these, scoring them as 6 minus your answer.
A dimension's risk score is the average of its 4 scores, rounded to 1 decimal. The overall score is the average of the 4 dimensions, out of 5. Results open after all 16 questions are answered.
Reading your results
Risk labels apply to the overall score and each dimension. 4 or above is Critical. 3 to below 4 is High. 2 to below 3 is Medium. Below 2 is Low.
The heatmap shows each dimension's score and label, with a small bar for each of its 4 questions.
The action plan lists dimensions from highest to lowest risk. A dimension scoring 3 or above gets 5 actions. Others get 3.
The interpretation guide maps Low to standard governance, Medium to investing in change management, High to a formal change program, and Critical to reassessing scope and approach.
