Microservices vs. Monolith Decision Tool
Stop debating architecture religion. Answer 15 context-specific questions about your scale, team, domain complexity, and DevOps maturity to receive an evidence-based recommendation: Monolith, Modular Monolith, Hybrid, or Microservices.
How This Tool Works
Each question evaluates a factor that influences the microservices vs. monolith decision. Higher scores indicate stronger microservices fit. The tool uses a weighted scoring model across five dimensions to generate a tailored recommendation with rationale, pros, and cons for your specific context.

How the Microservices vs. Monolith Decision Tool works
You answer 15 questions, 3 in each of 5 dimensions: Scale & Performance, Team & Organization, Domain Complexity, Deployment & DevOps, and Cost & Resources. The questions cover load, independent scaling, performance isolation, team size, team autonomy, DevOps maturity, domain boundaries, data isolation, rate of change, deployment frequency, stack diversity, fault tolerance, budget, distributed systems expertise, and timeline to production.
Each question has 4 options, scored 0 to 3. Higher scores mean stronger microservices fit. Dimension weights are Scale & Performance 1.2, Team & Organization 1.1, Domain Complexity 1.0, Deployment & DevOps 1.0, and Cost & Resources 0.9.
Your microservices fit score is your weighted points divided by the weighted maximum for the questions you answered. Unanswered questions are left out. Results open once you have answered at least half the questions.
Reading your results
A fit score below 30% returns Monolith, with Strong confidence. 30% to under 50% returns Modular Monolith. 50% to under 75% returns Hybrid. 75% or more returns Microservices, with Strong confidence.
The radar chart and the bar chart show microservices fit and monolith fit for each dimension. Monolith fit is 100 minus microservices fit. The result also lists a rationale, advantages, and points to watch for the recommended option.
